I want to tell about a very unfortunate incident about my close friend relative who lives in another city. It is about a young girl who got the most difficult conditions in her life just for having good looks. It was just another ordinary day for her when she was going for her college to learn about beauty and make up. She had a dream to part of fashion shows and open up her own beauty parlour. It was a dream for her to be the best in the industry and take up fashion as her career. But then something happened which completely changed her life. She was in auto rickshaw and suddenly two people in bike came close to her and tried to harm her face by throwing acid right in her face. She was lucky that auto took the turn and she could save her life. But then some part of damage was already done and she got marks and burns on her face. It was injury on her face which took few months to recovery.
At one point everyone thought that her career in fashion was over and she would be not being able to achieve her dreams. It was perceptions that people thought it was time for her to change her career and think of getting married. Many friends also started ignoring her and she was left alone in her life with only family to support her. Her mother was behind her and she gave her advice to ignore all things and just keep on working hard and believe in God. People would laugh at her when she used to go to college but she had the fighting spirit and completed her course and got the college degree with scholarship. Now she runs a beauty cosmetic centre on her own and living life to the fullest without depending on anyone. She was able to break the stereotype of having a bad look and still manage to turn into a successful entrepreneur. I have heard from my friend that she has also formed an online group where she supports such a community and provide support to acid victims and give them proper counselling and support to start a new life and have a positive start. It is a great lesson to learn from her that we should be always being independent and face any kind of situation in life. We should never be discouraged and judge out people from their looks.
I want to point out here about startling figures that the Nihar Naturals #IAmCapable survey conducted by Nielsen India reveals:
a. 69% of men agree that their judgement of women is based on their looks.
b. 64% of women agree that the judgments passed on them have affected their ability to reach their true potential.
c. 70%of women agree that majority of judgments on women are from family members or friends rather than strangers.
d. 72% of women agree that working women face more judgments on their looks or their clothes than housewives.
